The People's Liberation Army University of Science and Technology (PLAUST) is located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of six dynasties.The PLAUST is one of the "2110 project" army key universities with a corps-level status, under the direct control of Chinese people's Liberation Army General Staff Headquarters. It is one of five comprehensive key Universities in Chinese army and is open to civilian students. The history of PLAUST can be traced back to the Central Military Commission Radio School founded in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, February 1931. In 1999, the PLA Institute of communication engineering, PLA Engineering Institute of Engineering Corps, the General Staff Headquarters, the Air Force Research Institute of meteorology, and the General Staff 63rd Research Institute merged into one university known as the PLAUST. As of 2014, the PLAUST covers an area of 6500 mu (approximately 1070 acres) with building complexes of a total 110 million square meters, and its library holds more than 1.4 million books. It bears the responsibility to cultivate competent military commanders as well as engineering personnel for the modernization of national defense and the army.
